One of my MC’s dies from getting stabbed through the heart and I would like to know how long it’d take him to die/how much blood there would be considering the location of the wound?

Instantly, and, possibly none at all.  The thing about penetrating trauma to the heart is that often, the bleeding is ALL internal. I have seen perfectly “clean” punctures to the heart that were bloodless on the outside and absolutely fatal, and I’ve seen it more than once. Both were stabbings.  Good luck with your story!  xoxo, …

I think I missed what “NaNo Questions” are – could you maybe explain again? ;n;

Sure! November is National Novel Writing Month, where thousands and billions and like… at least a dozen writers try to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. (I seem to be failing at this substantially.)  Because a lot of these novels are seat-of-the-pants affairs (written by “pantsers”), they might not know exactly what …

Exactly how much could a large mylar balloon substitute as an airbag? A car is rear ended and then goes up the pavement crashing into a pole on the driver’s front side. The front passenger has no airbag (older car) but is holding the balloon. It’s for nano as well.

I’m gonna say “not so helpful.”  The thing about airbags is that they’re anchored in place. The mylar balloon is going to move around when your character hits it, rather than simply stay where it is and get smooshed. Also, I really, really want to not be in that car if that balloon pops.  However, just …

I have a NaNo Prep question about close-range blast trauma! Scenario: The small explosive is hidden on a relatively small boat (a gondola) and detonates with two people inside. It’s important that both characters survive the blast without mutilation. Questions: What would happen right after the bomb detonates? Would them being in the middle of the water influence the event? is it even plausible that they’d escape without serious wounds if they were so close to the blast? Thanks much!

Hey there @studiozealot. Thanks for your ask!  I’m going to suggest you change your story event in some way, and I’m going to tell you why.  Even if it’s technically possible for two people to be that close to an explosion and not suffer any wounds – it may be, but it would have to …

For NaNoWriMo! Hi, first thank you so much for all you do with this blog. My question: in the USA are gonadotropins easy to obtain or are they regulated? Could some combination of over the counter meds be used to facilitate pregnancy?

Hey there!  Short answer: gonadotropins (i.e. fertility meds) are regulated and are only available by prescription….. technically.  However, there are two routes your characters could use to get ahold of them: they can either order them from a country with shady laws (basically the equivalent of getting your VPN from the Seychelles, for example; there …
